Sally Closes Original Salon
On May 1st 2004 it will be exactly twenty years since I first opened the doors of my Friargate salon. As most of you will know, I have since opened three more salons in the Derby area.
It is therefore, with a real fond sadness that despite business still being extremely busy, I have had to come to the very hard decision to close this salon.
This decision is based on a couple of factors. None of which are related to the business itself. The main reason is that my brother, Matthew Montague, whose architectural business is situated next door, is constantly expanding and needs more office space. The Friargate salon premises has been owned by my family for years, twenty years of which I have occupied it. I feel it only fair to let another member of my family benefit from its ideal location.
At Irongate, we have an extremely large salon, which can easy accommodate more stylists. It makes sense to have our Derby team all under one roof.
Parking around the Friargate area has become quite an issue for both clients and staff. Much of the parking is for two hours only, which is just not enough time if you are having a colour, treatment, perm or other more lengthy services.
Our Irongate salon is situated in the City Centre almost opposite Derby Cathedral. The parking options are limitless. There is The Assembly Rooms, plus a small but very convenient car park behind Bennetts, accessed off Full Street. The Island (bar and diner on the corner of Queen Street) also has communal car parking. There is the SafePark on Bold Lane and all of these options are within a very short distance of the salon. Being in the City Centre, you also have the option to do any other jobs you might need to do in town either before or after your appointment, without having to walk too far or get in your car and travel elsewhere. Having one less salon will also mean that our budget will increase for future re-furbishments, re-decorating and future new services we may like to offer our clients. This can only be an exciting benefit for our long standing clients and hopefully bring in new clients as well.
I really want to convey that this is a positive decision and I feel strongly that it will only bring benefits for both my valued clients and my excellent team of staff.

We have decided to go out on a poignant date. We will therefore be closing the salon on the same date that we opened it, twenty years later. This will be Saturday 1st May 2004.
I also need to let you know that Friargate's Manager, Amy Darrington, is relocating with her Fiancée, to Manchester. This has coincidentally coincided with the closure of the Friargate Salon and she will be leaving for pastures new on 1st May.
