Exclusive Invitation to London Fashion Week
There is no greater reward than being recognised for your work whatever your field of expertise. And in hairdressing there is no greater accolade than being personally invited by Industry Giants L'Oreal to style the hair at the prestigious London Fashion Week. The invitation came through just a few weeks before the shows scheduled date and we could hardly contain our excitement. On Thursday 14th February Sally and her team (Robyn Smith, Charlotte Ward, Chris Gregory, Vicky Ward and Angel Sayers) excited but nervously set out to destination 'Stardom' in London. Nerves were heightened further when upon arrival we had been warned that one of the designers (who shall remain nameless) had given his hair team their marching orders after just 5 minutes, as he did not think they were professional enough! So nerves aside and professional hats on as we had been booked for the fashions shows by Berlin based designer Penkov who was showcasing her Autumn/Winter 2008 collection. The designs featured clean silhouettes and clear colours, with black, white, silver, cream and mint tones. V shaped dresses featured art deco elements, with tailored jackets, tuxedo pants and sophisticated coats in pure wool, in short this collection was of pared down minimalist luxury. To compliment the style, hair was blow dried back off the face and gelled lightly for a clean slick back look at the front, then at the rear the lengths were either left worn down and blow dried smooth or fixed into a large, smooth sophisticated bun at the nape of the neck. The team worked harder than ever before and although we are used to backstage work as we are at the Clothes Show Live event every year where the pressure can be intense, this is the next rung on the ladder and the team did a brilliant job. This is a mammoth event in the fashion and beauty industry and although the pressure to impress our industry colleagues was equally as mammoth, the team enjoyed the event enormously and returned home buzzing with stories and excitement. Sally was especially excited after more than 25 years in the business to have her hard work, passion and dedication recognised in this way 'To say I was excited was an incredible understatement, I have always wanted to go to London Fashion Week but these events are strictly invitation only as they are so prestigious'. After receiving praise and congratulations for their excellent standard of work and conduct by both Penkov and L'Oreal, Sally is immensely proud of her Artistic Team as are we all, so congratulations guys on a designer job well done!
