Talented Team

Once a year Industry giants L'Oreal run a national competition to try and find the 'next big thing' in hairdressing. The competition is called 'Talent Spotting' and is open only to young stylists and apprentices aged 25 years and under to ensure that only the newest talents can compete for the coveted title of 'Talent Spotting Finalist of The Year'. This is a fabulous title for a young stylist with fabulous prizes including a shoot art directed by a leading industry name for use of trade and to promote 'Talent Spotting 2009', a place for each member of the winning team on the L'Oreal Professionnel Exposure Tour to Barcelona 15 - 17th November 2008 and finally the opportunity for mentoring and to shadow a leading art team on one of their shoots in 2009.
The closing date for this year's entries into the first round was Monday 28th July and excitingly L'Oreal introduced a new category. Previously there was just a single category for individuals to enter, but this year see's the first 'Junior Art Team' category. As usual we had eager young stylists entering the competition trying their best to beat hundreds of other eager entrants to go through to the next round. The first round for both categories is to submit a fully researched and styled 'Mood Board' detailing the entrants interpretations of the forthcoming season's trends, and how that mood board can be translated into a live presentation on stage in front of an audience of hundreds.
We were very fortunate this year as one of our entries made it through to the next round in the 'Junior Art Team' category. The team consists of Angel Sayers (team leader), Emmanuelle Sayers (make-up artist & fashion), Vicky Wood (stylist & choreographer) and Chris Halls (stylist & sound direction). All members of this team are from our Old Hall Salon, St Peter's Churchyard, Derby and are thrilled to one of only three teams chosen to go through to the regional finals from hundreds of hopeful entries based on their stunning mood board and inspirational style based on the theme 'Black Magic'.
The team are now working hard on their presentation for the next round where they will all need to be fully prepared for their live 15 minute stage show. The regional final will be taking place in Manchester at the Lowry Hotel on Tuesday 7th October, so fingers crossed for a place in the finals and we will keep you all posted for the results. Good luck team!
