Behind the scenes

YEAR 2021

Tip 1 – Exfoliate before your spray tan

Start by exfoliating your skin with an oil free body scrub, paying particular attention to dry areas such as elbows and knees. Why oil free? Residue from oily products create a barrier on the surface of the skin preventing the most flawless results. This will help reveal the fresh skin cells beneath, which will form the smooth base that your spray tan will stick to. The fresher your skin cells, the longer the life of your tan.

Tip 2 – Hair Removal 24 hours prior

Any hair removal should be carried out 24 hours prior to tanning. If you don’t remove unwanted hair, your tanning solution will cling to your hair shafts, creating a dotty and uneven finish.

Tip 3 – Avoid Moisturiser, Lotion, Makeup and Deodorant

For best results, do not apply makeup or lotion to your skin before tanning as this acts as a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution causing a less effective tanning session. Avoid perfumes and deodorant on the day of your tan because some of the chemicals found in these products can prevent fake tan from adhering to the skin smoothly.

Tip 5 – Outfit

Your outfit is an important choice to make before your spray tan as it is most likely to stain. Choose something loose to avoid it rubbing off on your tan and preferably dark clothing so any obvious tan marks are not seen. We suggest wearing long sleeves to bed also to avoid staining your bed sheets too.

Tip 6 – Your first shower

It is recommended to have your first shower 8-12 hours after to allow the spray tan to settle on the skin and be more effective.

After this you should only use oil free moisturisers to keep your tan for longer. We can advise you on any aftercare at your salon appointment.
