FLYING INTO THE FINALS!

It’s a buoyant, entrepreneurial £6.9 billion-a-year industry that provides the heartbeat of UK high streets, and now Sally Montague Hair Group, Ashbourne, is poised to make history in the world of professional hairdressing after beating off nationwide competition to reach the finals of the prestigious Most Wanted awards, presented by leading industry magazine, Creative HEAD.

Established in 2001, Most Wanted celebrates the most accomplished individuals, teams and businesses in British and Irish hairdressing – the talents that lead the industry from the front, whether impressing with their creative skills, building business through teamwork or keeping communities alive and boosting local economies.

Sally Montague Hair Group, Ashbourne is one of five finalists in the Best Salon Experience category, earning a place at the Most Wanted Grand Final on Monday 2 September at Printworks – the atmospheric space that once delivered the Metro and Evening Standard newspapers to London. Here, with actor and comedian Aisling Bea at the helm, the hairdressing stars of 2019 will be unveiled.

Sally Montague Hair Group have seven salons across Derbyshire and the purpose-built Ashbourne site is the largest in the group. The site opened last June after eight years of design and construction and features a large salon, five treatment rooms, relaxation area and a studio for fitness classes.

“We are over the moon to be finalists, the Ashbourne salon continues to be a great success and now the focus is on building our team. There is really tough competition in both categories and we are delighted to be the only salon outside of London shortlisted in the ‘Best Salon Experience’ category – we built the salon around the needs of our clients and it’s great to be recognised in such a prestigious award.’

The Most Wanted awards comprise 14 categories recognising creativity and success across a multitude of disciplines, from customer service to business innovation. This year’s entries were judged by panels of experts including Gemma Bellman, director of Europe for Glossier; Navaz Batliwalla of Disney Roller Girl fame; Sonia Haria beauty director of the  Telegraph Group; Floral Street founder, Michelle Feeney; session stylists Ken O’Rourke, Tracie Cant, Johnnie Sapong and Syd Hayes; and industry influencers like Johanna Cree Brown, Jayson Gray and John Vial.

Alongside a coveted Most Wanted Trophy, this year’s champions will look forward to a year’s worth of profile-boosting editorial coverage in Creative HEAD and its associated titles, websites and events, resulting in worldwide recognition.

And success can be far-reaching – past champions have gone on to represent global brands, work alongside prestigious retailers, lead Fashion Week teams in London, New York, Paris and Milan and collaborate with the world’s most coveted designers. To become a Most Wanted winner really is career-changing.

“Most Wanted is the highlight of our year – an opportunity to lift the lid on the exceptional creatives and business thinkers who drive hairdressing to new heights. It’s where new talents are discovered and legends celebrated”Catherine Handcock, Publisher, Creative HEAD

Reflexology

SHARE

We are now holding Reflexology clinics at both our Ashbourne and Belper salons.

Reflexology has been around for thousands of years. Ancient Chinese used it to maintain good health and prevent disease, and is incorporated in traditional Chinese medicine still.  Eunice Ingham, who is considered the mother of modern reflexology, with the help of Doreen Bailey introduced it to the UK in the 1970’s in the form of modern reflexology that we know and love today.

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle complimentary therapy where the body and organs are mirrored on the feet and hands in what we call reflexes.  We apply specific direct gentle pressure to these reflexes to aid the body in its natural healing ability, to help bring about balance, release toxins and remove any imbalances in the body.  There are many theories to how reflexology works, most people find it beneficial to their general well-being, for relieving stress/tension and aiding relaxation.

A consultation is an important part of reflexology.  It enables the therapist to tailor the treatment to your individual needs, to make sure there is no reason why reflexology cannot be undertaken and to assess what you need, expect or want from the treatment. There can be some side effects to reflexology as your body is releasing the toxins and bringing about balance, you may experience headaches, you may want the toilet more, you may get worse before you get better and you may have problems sleeping.  These can be quite normal and should pass quite quickly.

Please phone 01332 974959 to book an appointment for either Ashbourne or Belper salon

we are holding a clinic at our Ashbourne Salon on the last Tuesday of every month

Treatment time is 1 hour and is priced at £45

We kicked off with an incredibly motivational session with Paul Fishwick, Commercial Development Manager at L’Oreal Professionnel, who inspired us with a workshop on customer excellence and the five star experience. We moved on to a presentation by Sally who reviewed everything that our business and team had achieved in 2018 while looking ahead to what is in store for the next year.

Next, the awards presentations highlighted the team members who had excelled in 2018. Competition is very tough and we only have eight categories so all of the winners and nominees should be incredibly proud. Congratulations to the entire team for making 2018 so fantastic!

SHU SESSION

We asked Isabel, Senior Stylist at Ashbourne, to go to L’Oreal HQ in London for a Shu Uemura photo shoot. Isabel was briefed to create a futuristic Tokyo inspired model and we think the final look below perfectly captures this.

“I created a mood board showing inspiration for the brand and to help communicate on the day to Shu squad. The trends to choose from included shittori texture , vintage Kawai , natural kei, samurai strength. My chosen theme  samurai strength represented strength, shine , structure, power , control and warrior. Make up artists, professional photographers and the Shu team were there to help create the look, with Ben Hards being the team director to my chosen theme.”
