CELEBRATING 2018

On Monday 14th January we invited the whole salon group to Ashbourne for our annual meeting and awards presentation.

We kicked off with an incredibly motivational session with Paul Fishwick, Commercial Development Manager at L’Oreal Professionnel, who inspired us with a workshop on customer excellence and the five star experience. We moved on to a presentation by Sally who reviewed everything that our business and team had achieved in 2018 while looking ahead to what is in store for the next year.

Next, the awards presentations highlighted the team members who had excelled in 2018. Competition is very tough and we only have eight categories so all of the winners and nominees should be incredibly proud. Congratulations to the entire team for making 2018 so fantastic!

THE AWARDS

The apprentice award for fantastic future potential was awarded to Kaylah – Congratulations Kaylah and well done to our entire apprentice team!

Next up was the best newcomer award which was presented to Sarah- Sarah has made a fantastic start and works in the booking office in Ashbourne.

Sally presented Millie with the stylist growth award for 2018- well done Millie! Millie completed her apprenticeship with us and is now a senior stylist at the Sadler Gate salon

Congratulations Jade, Jade won our spa therapist growth award for 2018. Jade works at both our Ashbourne and Belper salons and in the last year has completed training in ESPA, HD Brows, CACI, WAXU and CARITA.

The five star service award was presented to Emily and Zoe. Thank you to everyone who sent their feedback to help decide who should win this award . Emily is a senior stylist at Belper and Montague Creative at Derby University and Zoe is a creative director at Duffield and Belper.

Trying to squeeze everyone in was a challenge but congratulations to the Old Hall salon who won the team spirit award – well done!

Well done to Lizzie for taking home the ‘Best Performed Stylist’ award. Lizzie is the salon manager at Sadler Gate and this award is very much deserved, 8th year and counting!

Congratulations to the Ashbourne team who scooped the 2018 Salon of the Year!

LONDON FASHION WEEK

LONDON FASHION WEEK SS19

Reporting backstage from London Fashion Week is Zea, our senior stylist from Duffield, with the latest hair trends.

The look- We were shown the finished look which was a slicked down middle parting with sandy texture through the ends of the hair

The How-to- For this we used a light spritz of water spray to create a precise middle parting, then applied Techni art siren waves. Using a dressing out brush I smoothed the hair so that it was tight and flat, then dried it and applied Techni art volume architect ensuring the hair was smooth throughout. Crepe paper was used to wrap around the hair to ensure the hair is kept together whilst we styled the lengths and ends. We were creating a wet textured look through the ends to do this we used Techni Art dual styler bouncy and tender in thick sections through the back applying a lot of product and diffused it until dry.

It was then time for the rehearsal, when the models came back I started on my second model and repeated the process until I got to the diffusing step. Then we hit a stumbling block as the electricity cut out 30 minutes before the models had to be dressed. As we were diffusing the hair there was nothing we could do until the electrics were fixed which was really stressful as the models hair was still wet! Thankfully they managed to get the electric back on so managed to finish the models on time.

I had great time working backstage and can’t wait to hopefully be back next season.

OUR LATEST SHOOT

OUR LATEST PHOTOSHOOT

Members of Art Team and stylists from across the salon group took part in our latest shoot at The Old Hall which was photographed by Paul Gill. You may recognise our models who are all clients and friends of the salon and in Lydia’s case, have modelled in each of our photographic collections over the past five years! We always use models who we feel reflect our clients and produce looks which inspire you to try something new, from a peachy or pink tone to a shorter and more textured cut or bolder colour.

The make up for all models is by Chloe, Spa Therapist at our Ashbourne salon using High Definition.

This 70’s inspired copper is by Laura Robertson, Colour Specialist & Art Team member from the Belper salon. This shorter fringe looks fantastic on Rochelle and the styling compliments her colour perfectly.

This grunge-inspired look is modelled by Lydia who is currently on the cover of our Hair Guide in a much more polished looking image. Hair by Art Team Members Lizzie (Colour Specialist at Sadler Gate) and Deesh from the Duffield Salon.

Another look by Lizzie and Deesh. Ellie’s colour was transformed into a multi tonal but clean blonde and styled into a ‘faux bob’ for the shoot but it is actually shoulder length!

Alice and Imogen from Ashbourne enhanced Amy’s natural colour for maximum shine.

Katherine and Lorna from The Old Hall worked on this fantastic colour blend on Kirsty. They kept it smooth and straight on the final image so the colour technique can be clearly seen.

Last but not least is this fantastic work by Millie at Sadler Gate. We love the pink and peach tones which compliment Mabel’s skin tone and colouring.

HAIRDRESSING APPRENTICESHIPS

We run our own in-house apprenticeship and are recruiting Year 11 School Leavers who wish to pursue an exciting career in Hairdressing. To apply we need you to have achieved GCSE grades A*-C in English and Maths.

We believe in learning ‘the right way’ and not ‘the quick way’, as an apprentice technician you can expect to be training for at least a two year period involving practical and theoretical training in your salon and at the L’Oréal academies around the UK.

Apprentice places are in high demand, with a reputation for the training being second to none. We have full support from L’Oréal and the experience of the highly esteemed senior staff members.

Once onboard as an apprentice you will train towards your NVQ levels 1 and 2. Once successfully completed, you will then be ready to work on the salon floor as a Stylist. However, training will not stop there; you will then go on to work towards your NVQ Level 3 to advance your skills further.

To apply for any of the above positions, please send your CV and covering letter to:
